Arsenal assess Takehiro Tomiyasu ahead of Wolves trip as Oleksandr Zinchenko gets nod to start

Arsenal are this morning assessing Takehiro Tomiyasu to see if he could play any part in the side’s final game before the World Cup break.

The Gunners are travelling to Wolves tomorrow and Tomiyasu is a doubt after limping off against FC Zurich last week with a muscle issue.

The injury is not as bad as initially feared and Tomiyasu is expected to be fit to represent Japan at this month’s World Cup.

The Japan FA are in contact with Arsenal and their coaching staff, while home-based players have today travelled to Qatar to begin training.

They are confident Tomiyasu will join them next week and the defender could even make the Arsenal squad tomorrow as he is recovering well.

The right-back was left out of the Arsenal squad on Wednesday night, with Cedric Soares starting instead during the side’s 3-1 loss to Brighton in the Carabao Cup.

Tomiyasu has been a regular for Arsenal in recent weeks, mainly at left-back, but their problems there have eased due to Oleksandr Zinchenko returning to full fitness.

Zinchenko is due to start at Wolves after being rested on Wednesday and White, who on Thursday made England’s World Cup squad, should play at right-back again.
