Arsenal and Tottenham in £12m 'battle' for Nottingham Forest man

North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will "battle" to sign Nottingham Forest loanee Djed Spence.

The 21-year-old, who is on loan from fellow Championship side Middlesbrough, is reportedly valued at £12m.

Both clubs are said to be "interested" in a move for Spence, who starred in Forest's stunning FA Cup victory against Arsenal at the City Ground earlier this month.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are looking to provide competition for right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu, while Antonio Conte believes a new right-back is a priority.

If either club were to make a move, Spence would not move until the summer as he will see out the current season with Forest.

Middlesbrough wanted to recall the defender this month, but were unable to do so as the player wanted to stay at Forest.

“I’ve watched him, and he’s doing well and he’s happy,” said Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder.

"He wants to stay there for the second half of the season. I know that’s not the be-all and end-all, and we have to make the decision that fits right by us

“We’ve made the decision that Djed stays out there until the end of the season.

“Financially, we had the ability to improve the contract financially that benefited us, that allows us to maybe invest elsewhere and give us that opportunity to improve the standard of player we’re trying to get in to this football club by allowing Djed to go out.”
