Arsenal and Tottenham dealt blow in £120m Darwin Nunez and Lautaro Martinez transfers

Arsenal and Tottenham both appear to be eager to strengthen their attacking contingents this summer with both clubs linked with a number of exciting names, including Lautaro Martinez and Darwin Nunez. Having spent £7million to cancel Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's contract in January, Mikel Arteta is on the lookout for a new star striker at the Emirates Stadium.

While Tottenham's trio of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski is solid, their depth in the department leaves a lot to be desired. Both Martinez and Nunez have been linked with each of the North London rivals ahead of the summer window, but while the clubs are keen on the players, the players have their eyes set on a different location: Atletico Madrid.

Nunez has been in red-hot form for Benfica this season, with the 22-year-old scoring 20 goals in just 22 Liga Portugal appearances with the club reportedly looking to demand £60million for his signature. But according to the Telegraph, the Uruguayan has his heart set on a move to reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

Diego Simeone and co have a long-standing interest in the striker and the report states that a move to the Spanish capital currently remains the most likely option. He is not the only star being tempted by a stint in the famous red and white kit.

According to transfer expert Gianluca DiMarzio, Martinez, currently valued at £63million by transfermarkt, would also favour a move to Atletico, saying in an interview with wettfreunde : "I think it could be the summer of Lautaro and Atletico Madrid or Tottenham could be perfect solutions for him but I know that he'd like to go to [Atletico] Madrid.

"Tottenham, because I think Tottenham will go forward to Lautaro [Martinez], they wanted him last summer as they want another striker because they have to sell [Harry] Kane. They want another striker to play with Kane or prepare the future without Kane and Lautaro Martinez is one of the players that Fabio Paratici loves more.

"If he (Lautaro) had to choose another team and another tournament he would choose Atletico Madrid and Simeone."

However, it's incredibly unlikely that the Spanish side would be able to sign both Nunez and Martinez, meaning the market would likely be open for Arsenal or Tottenham to battle it out for the other signing.
