Arsenal and Man United 'learn' Lisandro Martinez stance amid transfer links

Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez is keen on completing a move to the Premier League amid interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, according to recent reports.

Martinez has established himself as one of Eredivisie's most consistent players in recent times, winning Ajax's player of the season award for his stellar displays during their 2021/22 title-winning campaign. And the Argentine's form hasn't gone unnoticed, earning plenty of interest from a number of Europe's top sides, including both United and the Gunners if recent reports are to be believed.

Now, The Mirror have reported that the player is keen on moving to the English top-flight this summer whilst the the north London outfit are said to have made three attempts to sign the 24-year-old in recent weeks, with their latest offer of £35 million, plus £5 million in add-ons, still short of Ajax's £43million valuation. Martinez, who can play centre-back, left-back and holding midfield, is reportedly 'excited' by the chance to play for a top English side as both Arsenal and the Red Devils continue to battle it out for his signature.

New United boss Erik ten Hag coached the former Newell's Old Boys star during their time together in Amsterdam and he has previously made it no secret of his admiration for the tough-tackling maestro. “I find Lisandro Martinez an excellent player, he is actually starting material and this is why I talk with him a lot," the Dutchman said last year.

Former Ajax transfer chief Overmars, who also played for Arsenal between 1997-2000, has previously praised the young defender's versatility and ability on the ball. “Martinez is a left-footed player who can play several positions in the back,” said Overmars.

“He is a defender who likes to play football forward.”
