Arsenal and Man United 'interested' in signing defender and it's not Lisandro Martinez

Arsenal have been linked with Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters as the Gunners continue their search for defensive reinforcements.

The north Londoners have already made four signings in the summer transfer window, bringing in Brazilian duo Gabriel Jesus and Marquinhos as well as Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira and American shot-stopper Matt Turner. football.london understands that the Gunners are also keen to bolster the left-side of their defence providing they can offload a number of fringe players from the squad, with Ajax star Lisandro Martinez mooted as a potential target.

Martinez typically operates in the centre of defence but can also play left-back and holding midfield, making him a hugely attractive player on the market. Manchester United are also said to be keen on signing the Argentine international and new Red Devils' boss Erik ten Hag previously coached the 24-year-old during their time together in Amsterdam - a factor that could potentially cost Arsenal in the race to sign the versatile defender.

Now, The Athletic have claimed that the Gunners and United also both hold an interest in another defender in the form of England international Walker-Peters. Tottenham Hotspur allowed the diminutive fullback to join Southampton on a permanent deal back in 2020 and the Lillywhites are said to have a £30million buy-back clause in the player's contract.

Like the aforementioned Martinez, Walker-Peters can be deployed in several different positions, comfortably operating at both right-back and left-back in recent times.
