Arsenal and Edu set Gabriel Martinelli contract deadline as Brazilian makes 'forever' promise

Arsenal would like to extend Gabriel Martinelli's contract over the next few months, according to the latest reports. The 20-year-old, who has scored five goals and registered five assists in the Premier League this season, currently has a deal running until the June 2024, with the club having an option to extend for a further year.

Martinelli is already a fans favourite in north London and is proving to be one of the most exciting talents in English football. The now Brazilian international has become an integral part of Mikel Arteta's project and is showing his worth in the Spaniard's young side.

With that in mind, Edu and Arteta would like to sort out a new contract to ensure that he has a lengthy stay at the Emirates. As seen on Reddit, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast that the Gunners aim to sort out Martinelli's contract situation over the next few months.

Luckily, it looks as though Martinelli has found a second home in north London, and he's committed to the long-term project Arteta has created. In fact, he's even gone as far as admitting that he'd like to remain at the club for the rest of his career.

"We have a young group, we have a lot of time ahead of us, players with a lot of quality, I think we will achieve great things," he told ESPN Brazil last month, via the Daily Mail. "Our focus is the Champions League. Fighting for that top four. A club like Arsenal has to be in the Champions League. It’s our total focus. We always want more. Of course, Arsenal are a giant team.

"If I can, I’ll stay here my whole life. I want to conquer things, as I said, I want to stay here and win titles, with these wonderful fans, my team-mates."
