Arsenal and Edu identify ideal £26m Josko Gvardiol transfer alternative amid Chelsea race

Bayern Leverkusen star Piero Hincapie has 'attracted the interest' of Arsenal following his impressive Bundesliga and World Cup displays. The 20-year-old showed his qualities in Qatar for Ecuador although they were unable to reach the knockout stages.

Mikel Arteta and Edu aren't the only people keeping an eye on Hincapie with north London rivals Tottenham among the many clubs interested in his services. Hincapie has made 13 appearances in Germany this season scoring one goal in the process.

The Gunners have held a long-term interest in Hincapie and last month football.london spoke to Lee Scott, a football analyst who has followed Hincapie for some time, to provide in-depth insight into exactly what Arsenal would be getting.

Scott backed Hincapie to 'hold his own' with many of Arsenal's defenders who have all been in top form this season. One of Hincapie's most valuable traits is that he is left-footed and the Gunners do decide to bring him to Emirates Stadium he would provide great competition for Gabriel Magalhaes.

Chelsea transfer target Josko Gvardiol, who is also left-footed, has been the Bundesliga defender attracting all the headlines with Hincapie seemingly going under the radar, although a host of Serie A clubs are said to be interested

According to Calciomercato, AC Milan, Napoli, AS Roma and Inter are all keeping a close eye on Hincapie with Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea also involved in the transfer battle.

Perhaps the most intriguing factor of the report is the value placed on the defender which has been listed as 'no less' than €25million-€30million (£21.5million - £25.8million). While a price range is provided, due to his recent displays, the price could be higher if a club entered negotiations but a deal is certainly tempting nonetheless. Especially with Gvardiol likely to cost at least double that figure.
