Arsenal and Chelsea receive Moises Caicedo transfer blow after Adrien Rabiot to Man United twist

Arsenal and Chelsea may have received a transfer blow in their pursuit of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo following Adrian Rabiot's decision to not join Manchester United.

Rabiot has been heavily linked with a move to United in recent times but Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia have claimed that the French international is set to turn down a move to Old Trafford in favour of agreeing a new contract with Juventus instead. Whilst that may seem irrelevant for the Gunners and the Blues, the Red Devils' failed pursuit of Rabiot, may mean they ramp up their interest in the aforementioned Caicedo.

Chelsea have already seen a £60million offer for the Ecuadorian international rejected earlier this month and The Times have since claimed that the west Londoners have told Brighton that they will not meet the asking price of more than £80million for the 21-year-old. It remains to be seen whether or not United would stump up that kind of cash for the youngster but their frustrations with their pursuit of Mason Mount are said to have caused them to focus their attention on Caicedo.

Back in the summer of 2020, Caicedo told The Athletic: "My dream is to play for Manchester United. Antonio Valencia is an example to follow.

"With his strength and dedication, he was able to get to that level. That motivates me to keep working hard and do the right things.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal had tried to sign Caicedo during the January transfer window, with their £70million offer turned down by the Seagulls, who were adamant he wasn't for sale during the winter window. The Gunners are currently focused on a deal to sign priority target Declan Rice but that hasn't stopped speculation regarding Caicedo making the move to the Emirates Stadium.

In fact, the Telegraph have claimed that the talented midfielder could be an option to Mikel Arteta's side once again if Thomas Partey leaves the club this summer.
