Arsenal and Chelsea handed boost in Joao Felix transfer battle after Bayern Munich decision

Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix seems destined for a move away from the Spanish capital with plenty of talk occurring around his future with Chelsea and Arsenal both interested. Felix has impressed for Portugal at the World Cup, grabbing a goal against Ghana in the group stages before notching two assists in the 6-1 last-16 win against Switzerland.

Those performances have alerted Chelsea and Arsenal to Felix, with Atletico slapping a £100million price tag on the 23-year-old. Earlier this year football.london reported that the Gunners were interested in signing the Portugal international, while Chelsea could also renew interest having chased to sign Felix from Benfica back in 2019 before he joined Atletico and comments from CEO, Gil Marín, has given both clubs great optimism about securing a deal.

When discussing Felix's future at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, he said: “Joao Felix has top level but because of his relationship with Simeone and game time… we feel that makes sense to consider potential bids to sell him."

Felix has also delivered some hints on his future suggesting he is much happier when playing for the Portugal national team, but that at this current moment all his focus is on the World Cup with his agent Jorge Mendes handling his potential transfer business.

Bayern Munich were also in the transfer battle for Felix but seemed to be at a disadvantage with Atletico seemingly preferring that Felix secure a Premier League move if he does depart the club. Perhaps as a result of that, Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Bayern are no longer interested in Felix giving Chelsea and Arsenal a transfer boost.

Their report quotes Sport1 journalist Karry Hau who debunks talk of Bayern's interest in Felix saying, "Bayern are no longer interested in Joao Felix, contrary to recent reports in Spain. The Portuguese striker was an option for Bayern last summer, but Félix is no longer an issue at Bayern."

The German champions being ruled out of the race for Felix will undoubtedly boost the chances of Arsenal or Chelsea signing them with both clubs looking to recruit in the forward department in the January transfer window.
