Arsenal and Chelsea each look set to miss out on the signing of Jonathan David as Bayern Munich plot a bid for the 22-year-old. The striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, but, with Robert Lewandowksi reportedly set to leave the Allianz Arena this summer, a switch to the Bundesliga champions beckons.
David featured 38 times for the French giants in Ligue 1 this season, directly contributing towards 15 goals. Despite having played a major role in Lille's title-winning campaign the campaign prior, his impressive displays weren't enough to steer the club beyond a mid-table finish.
However, he's still managed to court interest from a host of top-flight sides - one of whom are Bayern - who see David as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, according to Sport Bild. The report claims that the German side have identified the Canada international as a candidate to lead the line with the Pole set to join Barcelona this summer.

David, who sees his contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy expire in 2025, is said to be valued at £50million by Lille, but, with many sides said to be circling his situation, a bidding war could easily break out and drive his asking price. With a move seemingly on the cards, the striker has already admitted that his future at Lille is in doubt amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.
He said, via Jeunes Footeux : "I'm under contract at LOSC. The most important thing for me is to finish the season as well as possible. What happens after that, we will see. The Premier League attracts everyone. It is the most competitive league in the world. It is a really good league."
David's agent, Nick Mavromaras has also previously dropped a huge hint that his client could be heading to the Premier League soon. Mavromaras said to Radio Canada's Tellement Soccer podcast in December 2021: "I can't say his price today, that has to do with Lille. Jonathan won't show it, but he knows he is one of the best young forwards in the world.
"There is also Erling Haaland, who now costs between €75million (£62.4million) and €100million (£83.2million). There have been transfers of €150million (£124.8million). If you want to be part of that list, you have to learn to manage the pressure.
"For us, the goal is to finish the season in Lille, but it will be his last season there for several reasons. I think the Premier League is a great option for him. I think he likes Spain a lot too because he likes playing with the ball and alongside very technical players.
"These two leagues are a big priority for him, but nothing is excluded. You never know, with Paris Saint-Germain or the big Italian clubs. It is normal that all of these big clubs are interested in the top scorer in Ligue 1, but I can tell you that today, there is no official offer."
