Arriva pull buses from service as teens cause thousands of pounds worth of damage

Arriva have been forced to pull a number of bus services from their routes after they were targeted by teenagers.

Over the weekend, Merseyside Police confirmed they received multiple reports from Arriva of damage being caused to buses, particularly on the 10B bus route between Queens Square and Huyton.

Officers from the Knowsley policing team took to social media to share the images of the 'horrific' damage.

They said: "The costs to repair the damage has been estimated to be in the tens of thousands and has resulted in buses being taken out of service.

"The offenders are said to be males and females, aged between 13 and 16 years old, and who possibly reside around the Elizabeth Road area, as this is where they have been getting off the buses."

Police officer are currently investigating the matter and CCTV footage has been obtained however, anyone with information is being urged to contact Merseyside Police on 101 or via the online reporting service.

The shocking image, which shows damage to the roof of the vehicle, was shared on social media by annoyed residents who say "this has got to stop" as "innocent people are suffering".

Posting in one Facebook Page, one person said "this is not a one off" as several vehicles have been vandalised over the last few weeks and buses are "being pulled off the route".

Another wrote: "How sad, nobody fears punishment anymore."

Another added: "It's an everyday occurrence, weekends are worse.

"Things need to change and quickly before something serious happens."
