The man remains in hospital where his condition is currently described as stable. A 53-year-old man from Liscard was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent this morning. He remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Darren Hankin said: "Although we have made a swift arrest our investigation continues and we are still keen to hear from anyone else who might have been on Egerton Street at the time to come forward with information.

"This was a violent incident in a residential area that no one should fall victim to. Any information or evidence you have could prove vital in our efforts to keep our streets safe."
