Arrest made after cyclist killed in Boxing Day hit-and-run

A man has been arrested following a hit-and-run incident on Boxing Day which left a cyclist dead.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was cycling on a Cross XC Range bike just after Christmas in Ormskirk when he was involved in the tragic incident.

Emergency services rushed to the site of Dicks Lane, where the cyclist had been hit by an unidentified car. He was later rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Local authorities have not released the name of the cyclist who was killed in the incident but shared their condolences with his family at this difficult time.

A 29-year-old man since has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through alcohol or drugs.

However, police continued to call on members of the public to come forward if they believe they have any information that could help with their investigation.

Investigating officers were appealing to witnesses who may have seen or recorded a Kia Sportage in the area in the early hours of the Boxing Day evening.

Sergeant Chris Evans, from the force’s road policing unit, said: “This collision has resulted in a man losing his life and my thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time.

“While an arrest has been made, our enquiries are very much ongoing and I would ask anyone with information or footage which could help our enquiries to make contact with the police as soon as possible.”

People that may have information linked to this incident are being asked to contact Lancashire Police on: SCIU@Lancashire.police.uk or to upload any directly related footage here.

Alternatively potential witnesses can call the police of 101 and quote the log number 850 to be put in contact with the relevant investigators.
