Arrest after man, 59, taken to hospital following early hours street attack

A 59-year-old man was taken to hospital after an attack on a street in Radcliffe.

The incident happened at around 1.20am this morning (Thursday), police said. Officers were called to a report that a male had been attacked.

The man was rushed to hospital from the scene with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. Eyewitnesses said the incident happened near a bus stop on Stand Lane, near the junction with Queen Street.

Police have confirmed that a 22-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. He remains in custody where he will be quizzed by detectives.

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 1:20am this morning (22 September 2022), police responded to reports of an assault on a male that occurred on Stand Lane in Radcliffe. A 59-year-old man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for injuries that are not life threatening or life changing.

"An 22-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. He remains in custody for questioning."
