Arrest after car crashes into wall in Swansea

An arrested was made in the early hours of this morning after a car mounted the pavement in Swansea and hit the wall of a building.

Police say the driver "blew nearly four times the legal limit" for alcohol when they were breathalysed at the scene. They were subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink driving,

The force's Roads Policing Unit published a picture of the crashed Peugeot 2008 SUV in a social media feed on Twitter early on Saturday morning. It shows the passenger door of the hatchback is open, showing signs that at least one of the airbags had been deployed. Police said "luckily nobody was injured".

The "Fatal5" is a reference to the five contributory factors that most often lead to serious road traffic incidents. They are:

  • Careless driving
  • Drink and drug driving
  • Not wearing a seatbelt
  • Using a mobile phone
  • Speeding

According to official statistics, road users who commit one of the "Fatal Five" offences are far more likely to be involved in a fatal collision than those who do not.
