CHICAGO — Luis Arraez clinched the American League batting title on the season's final day.
The Twins designated hitter walked twice and doubled before leaving in the third inning as the Twins stomped the Chicago White Sox 10-1 on Wednesday.
Arraez finished the season hitting .316. He entered the day at .315 with his closest pursuer, home run and RBI champion Aaron Judge of the Yankees, at .311. Judge, who hit his American League record 62nd home run on Tuesday, was not in the Yankees starting lineup for their finale in Texas.
As Arraez departed from second base after his third-inning double, he earned a congratulatory pat from pinch runners Jose Miranda. He embraced Gio Urshela on first and fist-bumped with first base coach Hank Conger. The at Guaranteed Rate Field gave him a nice, albeit a little subdued, ovation — he had broken up Dylan Cease's no-hitter with two outs in the ninth not too long ago, after all — as the Venezuelan approached the Twins dugout.
His teammates were all on their feet clapping, but Carlos Correa was there to greet him at the steps with a big hug before the 25-year-old went down the whole receiving line for slaps on the back and accolades.
