Arnold shoppers welcome Post Office move as current owners look for a buyer

A Nottingham Post Office is set to move location in order to appeal to potential buyers. It comes after the current owners of the Arnold Post Office intended to put the business up for sale so they can retire.

The owners want to re-establish the Post Office in the heart of the town and is currently on the market for £144,950. The proposed plan is to relocate to the new AMP Building on Arnold Market Place from the present Worrall Avenue location.

The branch needs to move due to the planned redevelopment of Arnold town centre and the current Postmaster feels moving the branch will secure its standing in the local community. The proposal intends to create a modern, open plan shop with a low-screened and one open-plan position at the retail counter.

The move has been welcomed by Arnold shoppers as Dianne Mckay from Carlton said: "It is a better place. It will be more central here. I do not even know where the current Post Office is." Christine Protheroe also from Carlton said: "I think it will be more central. People are missing the current Post Office unless you drive in that way."

Helen Flint from Arnold added: "It is the first time I have used this Post Office. I have not lived here for long. It is a little bit out of the way. It will be better when it is more central."

June Oswin said: "There is no room in there so the new Post Office will be better for access. We go up to Beechwood rather than that one. The queuing in that one is useless." Jim Oswin said: "If they are retiring then fair enough, it is not that far off the main street."

Natalie Bexon, 42, from Arnold said: "Well from what I have heard, it is not going to be any bigger and there will be no where to park. Where it is now, you can park outside and use the Post Office." Linsey Porter from Bestwood Park said: "I would not really used this Post Office anyway because I live across the park. I would use the new one if I am in Arnold."

The proposed move is currently in its consultation period which closes on 12 May and customers are invited to share their thoughts.
