Neighbours on a street in Arnold have spoken out after their black bins weren't emptied for almost a week. It took six days for the black bins on Thurlestone Drive, Arnold to be collected by the council.
Residents had taken to a facebook local community group to share concern that their rubbish bins hadn’t been emptied. They were originally supposed to be collected by a Gedling Borough Council waste vehicle on February 3, however were left until the morning of February 9.
This was due to two badly parked vehicles at the top of Thurlestone Drive which the bin waste vehicle couldn’t get down the road. The waste vehicle had returned on several occasions however still couldn't get down the street.

Frances Suckley, 77, told Nottinghamshire Live that when she noticed they hadn’t been emptied she rang the council. She said this is the first time it’s ever happened: “What happened is that it should have been the black bin on Friday. They came and emptied them this morning. It’s the first time it’s happened since I’ve lived here.
"It wasn’t the drivers fault they hadn't got the space to drive through. It was quite unusual. For me, it’s not a big problem, I don’t have much [rubbish]. It’s so unusual, I've never remembered it ever happening.”
90-year-old Jane Wartchorn, has been a resident on the street for 19 years. She said: “I’ve just had to keep going out to the gate to put rubbish in it. It’s the first time it’s happened and I've lived here for a long time. It’s very difficult to get in and out with a car when cars are parked. These things happen. Fortunately mine doesn’t get very full however other people will have a lot with families.
Another resident, Michael Raynes, moved to Thurlstone Drive six and a half years ago, he said: “Over six days it was supposed to be done on Friday. Traffic couldn’t get through, we believe that's why. There’s a lot of older people who need medical assistance down here. Idiots keep double parking. This is what annoys me on the roads.”
A Gedling Borough Council Spokesperson said: “We rely on residents parking their cars considerately when we are collecting bins. On this occasion, due to a small number of badly parked cars, we were unable to get the waste vehicle down the road to empty the bins. We returned to the road on several occasions and it wasn’t until yesterday that the road was clear. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
