Arnaut Danjuma Tottenham transfer fate could rest on Antonio Conte unleashing new partnership

Tottenham great Glenn Hoddle believes new signing Arnaut Danjuma could flourish once he is in the same team as Harry Kane. Making his Spurs bow in last month's 3-0 FA Cup fourth round win over Championship side Preston North End, the Netherlands international marked his debut with the final goal of the contest as he netted from close range in the dying minutes.

An unused substitute in the home win over Man City before getting 11 minutes in last weekend's 4-1 defeat at Leicester City, Danjuma will be hoping his minutes increase over the coming weeks with some important games on the agenda. Joining the club on a loan deal from Villarreal at the end of the January transfer window, the Lagos-born star's long-term future could well rest on how he fares over the next few months with Tottenham having the option in their agreement to purchase him at the end of the season.

Having watched the ex-Bournemouth man against Preston and spotted a number of positive runs that weren't picked out by some of his new teammates, Hoddle feels that Kane's creativity and eye for a pass could suit Danjuma down to the ground.

"Danjuma I don't know," said Hoddle when asked by football.london for his verdict on Tottenham's two January signings. "The judgement will still be out whether he's going to be a massive asset or not. He's come in and scored against Preston, which is a great way to start for any club for a striker, and he looked like he was getting a little bit upset that the ball wasn't coming.

"I can tell him now you've got to maybe wait for the runs when you are playing with Harry Kane as you might get them then, but Harry wasn't on the pitch and we don't have that creativity.

"He's making runs for people to play it over or in behind him but [Christian] Eriksen and those days are not there at the moment as they are very economical and [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg and [Rodrigo] Bentancur do a great job but they're not that sort of player where he wanted to go. Where he wanted to go he was frustrated already so he's maybe going to have to get to know his teammates first."

Hoddle is confident that Pedro Porro will turn out to be a "great signing" for the club after they finally managed to get a deal over the line for the right wing-back on deadline day. The Spaniard struggled on his Tottenham debut at Leicester City but he has all the attributes to be a hit in England once he gets to grips with the pace and intensity of the Premier League.

"You saw with Emerson Royal it's interesting footballers' minds because it was Emerson's best performance [vs Man City] I've seen him play in a Tottenham shirt suddenly because he's got a player here now who is going to take his shirt. It's incredible," said the former England manager.

"I think he's [Porro] a good signing defensively and in attack. A great signing and I think he will do very well for Tottenham,"
