Arnaut Danjuma makes Liverpool revelation amid Manchester United transfer watch

Manchester United aren’t the only club keeping an eye on Arnaut Danjuma after the Villarreal star revealed Liverpool have also been following him.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, United are keeping tabs on the Dutch winger, although a move remains unlikely under Erik ten Hag. The Reds are still fond admirers of the 25-year-old, who was considered as an alternative to Jadon Sancho last summer.

Danjuma has a €45million release clause which can be activated in the summer. The former Bournemouth star has enjoyed a superb debut season with Villarreal, scoring 16 times and grabbing four assists, including goals against Juventus and Bayern Munich as the La Liga side reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

United are understood to have seriously discussed the possibility of signing Danjuma a year ago, but were cautious about moving for a player who was playing in the Championship at the time. The Reds still retain an interest in him, but sources admit a move is unlikely given how overstocked United are on the left wing.

They’re not the only side to have shown an interest in Danjuma though. Speaking to Ziggo Sport, the Netherlands international revealed United’s rivals have also been keeping a close eye on him this season, and he has admitted he would consider a move if an offer was made.

“I’m always as honest as possible about it: I’ve never had contact with clubs or anything like that during the season,” Danjuma said.

“I always know about my situation after the season; I don’t want to be involved in it at all during the season. But I have been informed that Liverpool were following me closely.

“I will never lie: I think it’s a bad quality if you’re not ambitious. And if a club came along that offered me a higher platform to play on sport-wise, I would always have to consider it.”

Danjuma’s comments come as speculation continues over Sadio Mane’s future at Anfield. The Senegal international is being heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich, which could leave Liverpool looking for a new forward to replace him.
