Members of An Garda Siochana and the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) were called to a property in Cork city yesterday after reports of hazardous material.
The Army bomb disposal squad moved into the College Road area on Wednesday morning after the alarm was raised.
The units remained at the scene into the evening.

A spokesperson for the garda press office confirmed that as of 6.45pm Wednesday, the bomb squad were still on the scene where "it is understood a number of potentially hazardous chemicals are present."
While some road diversions were put in place in the immediate vicinity, Gardai said: "There is no hazard to the public at the current time."
Gardai moved into the area shortly after 11am on Wednesday, cordoning off a front yard in a terraced house in the College Road area and alerting local residents.
Locals told CorkBeo that Gardai evacuated residents inside the house.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Collins Barracks on the Northside of the City arrived shortly afterwards.
A tent was put up in the front yard of a house - believed to be rented to students - and locals told CorkBeo that they observed an investigative team enter the home.
It's the second time this month that bomb disposal units have been called to incidents in Cork city.
On June 14th, an unexploded small bomb, believed to be a War of Independence era hand-grenade, was made safe on a river bank in the Douglas area of Cork City.
