Heathrow passengers were helped through the airport by the Armed Forces during the Border Force strikes today. Brits returning from abroad said queues were no worse than normal in spite of fears passengers would have to wait for several hours in order to get back into the country.
One passenger said he got through border checks Heathrow Terminal Two more quickly than he has done in years. There have been few changes to flight schedules and security also appeared to be running smoothly.
The Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force have been called in to help at Heathrow, Birmingham, Cardiff, Gatwick, Glasgow and Manchester airports. Passengers have been warned to expect delays due to strikes by around 1,000 Border Force staff members of the PCS union.
