Armenia player lobs bottle at LINESMAN as Scotland 'goal' sparks furious Nations League reaction

Fuming Arman Hovhannisyan avoided a red card despite throwing a bottle at a linesman against Scotland.

The Armenia team were protesting as Scott McKenna tapped the ball into the net on the stroke of half time.

That looked to be the defender's second and Scotland's third of the night only for VAR to rule the goal out for Steve Clarke's men.

However, Hovhannisyan could also have been hauled up by the video assistant who was lucky to avoid punishment during the Nations League clash.

As soon as the ball hits the back of the net the Armenian picked up a water bottle and lobbed it in the direction of the linesman, who was running back to the halfway line.

Pundit James McFadden was left stunned by the reaction, telling Premier Sports: "That is incredible.

"To pick a bottle up, and even think about throwing at an official, and to get away with it; incredible.

'We have VAR, they have cameras everywhere, they should be looking at that."

Alan Hutton reckons the defender, who could face retrospective punishment, was lucky to avoid at least a booking: "That's in the direction of the linesman, that's terrible.

"You should be punished for that."
