Armed police swoop on Liverpool street

Armed police descended on a Merseyside street on Tuesday afternoon.

A number of police cars and officers were present at Wharncliffe Road in Old Swan and officers armed with guns were seen patrolling the street.

Photographs taken by the ECHO shows armed police officers going to and from a property and a broken front door to a nearby home. Around six cars were seen along with several officers, while neighbours looked on.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers attended after unconfirmed reports of a man carrying a gun in Liverpool this afternoon, Tuesday 5 April. Police received a report at 12.30pm from a member of the public that they had seen a man carrying what they believed was a gun on Wharncliffe Road and entering a property on the road.

Armed officers are currently at the scene and have carried out an extensive search of the area. No suspect or firearm was found and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
