Armed police swooped on a quiet Midlothian residential area following a 'concern for a person' call on Monday night.
Residents in Gorebridge were alarmed after seeing 'up to eight' police vehicles in the town, as well as an ambulance, as officers descended on the main street followed by a nearby street.
Police initially stopped outside the Scotmid on Hunterfield Road before moving to the Hillside Crescent area. A spokesperson for the force confirmed officers received a call relating to a concern for a man.

They said after carrying out "extensive enquiries" he was later traced safe and well. No further detail on why armed officers were deployed was given at this time.
Residents in the area reported a hefty police presence shortly after 8pm, with one saying there were as many as eight police vehicle.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 8.30 pm on Monday, 9 January 2023 police received a call regarding a concern for a man in the Gorebridge area.
"Officers carried out extensive enquiries and the man was traced safely a short time later."
