Armed police storm busy Leeds street and arrest 24-year-old after man seen carrying a knife

A man has been arrested after attempting a serious assault.

On Sunday, September 25, large numbers of armed police were spotted in Harehills Lane, Leeds, around 1pm. West Yorkshire Police were informed about a male attempting to cause violence and rushed to the scene.

A 24-year-old attempted a serious assault, and was spotted with an knife, an eyewitness said. Armed officers later arrested a man and patrolled the area for the rest of the day.

He was taken into custody and has since been bailed. Further enquiries are pending.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police confirmed the details of this investigation, and said: "At 12.26pm yesterday (Sunday), police received a sighting of a male who was wanted following an attempted serious assault in Leeds in which a knife was alleged to have been used.

"Armed officers were deployed to the scene and a 24-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries."
