Armed police scrambled as knifeman launches road rage attack

Armed police and a helicopter were scrambled after a man attacked a car in a terrifying road rage ordeal.

Police were called to a report of a road rage incident on Woolston Grange Avenue in Warrington on Monday at around 5.40pm. The caller reported their car was being attacked and the attacker was "possibly armed with a knife."

Officers, armed police and a helicopter were all sent to the scene and after searching the area they found a 34-year-old man hiding in a garden on Inspector Avenue. Posting on the Warrington Police branch of Cheshire Police, a spokesperson said the man also assaulted two police officers.

A knife, drugs and cash were all seized. The statement said: "Great teamwork from B Block, the Roads Crime Unit and the public. A male was arrested, after he failed to stop for officers. He was arrested for failing to stop, dangerous driving and drug driving. The male also assaulted two officers.

"This was following a road rage incident where he threatened people with a knife. A knife, drugs and cash were all seized and he will be dealt with for all offences overnight."

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At around 5.40pm on Monday, July 11 police were called to reports of a road rage incident on Woolston Grange Avenue, Warrington. The caller reported that their vehicle was being attacked by a man, possibly armed with a knife.

"Local officers, supported by the police helicopter and firearms unit, were deployed to the scene and, following a search of the area, a 34-year-old-man was located hidden in a garden on Inspector Avenue. The man was arrested on suspicion of affray, driving without due care and attention, assaulting an emergency services worker, drug driving and possession with intent to supply class A drugs, he is currently in police custody assisting officers with their enquiries."
