Armed police called to 'disturbance' after man sustains pellet gun injury

A man has been arrested after a 'disturbance' on a Cardiff street prompted a huge armed police response. The incident, which allegedly involved a group of men in possession of several offensive weapons, left one man with minor injuries after being shot with a pellet gun.

Officers from South Wales Police were called to Cornwall Street in Grangetown shortly after 9.30pm on Thursday, April 22, following reports of a disturbance on the street. Upon further investigation, a 25-year-old man was arrested at an address on Lower Cathedral Road in Riverside on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

Armed police were deployed to the address "as a precaution to ensure the safety of the public and other police officers". Eyewitnesses reported seeing around 15 armed officers on the street in Riverside at around 11pm.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Shortly after 9.30pm last night police officers responded to a report of a disturbance on Cornwall Street, Grangetown area which involved a group of males in possession several offensive weapons. A 23-year-old man suffered a minor injury caused by a pellet gun which did not require any medical attention.

"Upon further investigation, a 25-year-old man was arrested at an address on Lower Cathedral Road and arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary. Armed officers were also deployed as a precaution to ensure the safety of the public and other police officers. Investigations continue."
