Armed police arrest gunman after broad daylight car park shootout

A gunman has been jailed for 12 years after opening fire on a rival in a busy shop car park.

Mohammed Islam, 36, was captured on CCTV in Small Heath, Birmingham brandishing a silver handgun before firing repeatedly at his victim, hitting him in the thigh as he attempted to escape, at around 7.50pm on 2 September 2023.

Islam fled the scene, but was later arrested by armed police as he travelled in a taxi. Islam was cleared of attempted murder at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday (23 January) but found guilty of wounding with intent and racially aggravated public order offences after racially abusing officers during his arrest.
