ARMED police in England stopped a car being driven by a man wanted for “high-value thefts” north of the Border.
Police in Dumfries and Galloway thanked their counterparts in Cumbria after a vehicle was intercepted near Carlisle.
The driver, a man from Glasgow, was arrested and found to be wanted for “a number of thefts of high value goods from across Scotland”, Police Scotland said.
The force’s Dumfries and Galloway wrote: “Big thanks to Cumbria Roads and Firearms Policing Team who stopped a car near Carlisle which was being driven by a male from Glasgow who was wanted by Dumfries Community Officers for a high-value theft from a supermarket in town.
“After arresting the male our officers established that he was wanted for a number of thefts of high-value goods from across Scotland.
“He will now be held in custody pending his court appearance.”
The force added that they were later alerted to another “high-value theft taking place”.
It went on: “This time a male and female from Peterborough were arrested in relation to the theft of alcohol.
“Our community officers work closely with retailers and other police forces to share information regarding crime groups who target our region to commit theft.
“Organised shoplifting costs us all and we know that those responsible are often involved in other forms of criminality.
“We will continue to work with retailers to deter and detect those involved.”
