Armed actors captured filming tense shooting scenes for new Disney+ movie in Manchester's Northern Quarter

Mobile phone footage has captured actors filming a gunshot scene through the back streets of the Northern Quarter. The loud bangs of gunfire have echoed through the streets throughout this week as crews continued to film for a new Disney+ series.

Those living and working in the area have also spotted controlled explosions bursting through windows at different sites, as well as high speed car chases filmed by drones above. It comes as Manchester became the chosen backdrop for the new Disney+ series Culprits - set to star Gemma Arterton, with filming going on across various sets in the city.

The shoot-out was captured on camera being filmed on Lever Street and Faraday Street in the Northern Quarter on Sunday (March 20) with the roads around being blocked off temporarily. It shows a group of men dressed in riot gear running around the bend, as the sound of gunshots rang out.

Crews have been filming throughout the Northern Quarter streets throughout the week. On Monday, (March 21) a getaway scene was spotted being filmed on Dickinson Street, just off Portland Street. Production blocked off the surrounding roads - with one scene featuring a blue getaway car, with a drone camera filming from above.

Others have taken to social media to share their own clips and pictures of the filming. Other footage shows a false wall being blasted open as smoke is seen billowing from the building as well as a car chase involving a BMW.

Local residents were sent letters being warned of the various road closures beforehand, which also included Newton Street, Back Piccadilly and Dale Street throughout the week, ending on Thursday (March 24). Parking bays were also temporarily suspended for equipment vehicles to be parked up as the filming continued.

The show will run over eight episodes, and will follow a crew of criminals in the aftermath of a heist, as each of them is picked off one-by-one by a killer. It’s been written and directed by J Blakeson, the Harrogate-born writer and filmmaker behind The Disappearance of Alice Creed and 2020 feature thriller I Care A Lot.
