Armagh skipper Kelly Mallon fighting fit for promotion joust with Kerry

Armagh captain Kelly Mallon has declared herself fit for Sunday’s Lidl National League Division Two final against Kerry.

Mallon has yet to feature for the county this year having broken her fibula while on club duty last October, with her return complicated by an Achilles injury.

With promotion on the line this weekend, she said: “I'll be togging out but whether I'm used or not is outside of my control.

“I'd just got myself back with the fibula break and I was starting to make progress there and then just on that return the Achilles flared up.

“Definitely I had a couple of weeks of a really low time, I was definitely very frustrated with it but I'm feeling much more positive now because I'm on the way back again.”

The multi-talented Mallon says that football is her first love and while she admits that her camogie days are at an end, she will continue with road bowling.

She has been prolific in bowling, for which she is the most decorated female player in the sport’s history.

She’s bidding for her 10th All-Ireland title this year while she’s also been successful internationally, winning the European title and the prestigious Queen of the Roads against competitors from Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.

“Football, it's my first sport, my first love. So to win something, especially as captain, that would probably mean a little bit more.

“I do like both elements. I do enjoy that sole responsibility, it's me and the rest of the team, my Dad and whoever else is showing the road and stuff, but it's on me and I do enjoy that element of it.

“But definitely, the team environment, there's nothing like the buzz of being in a changing room.”
