Armagh GAA issue update after medical emergency at the Box-It Athletic Grounds on Saturday

Armagh GAA have issued a statement after a volunteer steward needed medical assistance before being taken to hospital at the end of Saturday’s All-Ireland SFC win over Westmeath at the Box-It Athletic Grounds.

Kieran McGeeney’s side clinched a remarkable 1-13 to 1-12 win over last season’s Tailteann Cup champions after Conor Turbitt’s goal two minutes from time.

With over 10,000 spectators in attendance at the Armagh City venue, as is customary at the end of a big game, players were on the pitch signing jerseys and posing for photos with young fans in the immediate aftermath of the game.

However, a medical emergency meant that all players and fans were told to leave the pitch immediately as a member of the stewarding team had taken ill in the control room.

The pitch was cleared in case the air ambulance was dispatched, but the steward received emergency medical care at the venue before being transferred to hospital.

On Sunday night, Armagh GAA wished the steward, Kevin Crossey, a speedy recovery and thanked the medical teams for their efforts.

“We would like to wish our volunteer steward Kevin Crossey a speedy recovery after he took ill following yesterday’s game in the Box-It Athletic Grounds,” the statement read.

“We can’t thank the medical team, volunteers and all those who assisted enough for the care and attention they provided Kevin.

“To our fans, thank you for following our stewards’ advice, and for all your well wishes for kevin. We look forward to seeing you on the road again next week in Healy Park.”
