A charity whose base was destroyed in a massive fire last week said it has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the local community since.
The Armadale Shed was gutted following the blaze last Wednesday afternoon that saw the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service scramble six appliances to get the flames under control.
Fourteen members were quickly evacuated as the fire – believed to have started in an extraction unit – took hold. Thankfully nobody was injured but pictures from inside the base show the devastation after the fire destroyed expensive tools and machinery along with planters, benches and other items the members had been working on.
The charity – established in 2016 – will not only have to replace equipement, but will also have to find a new base.
However, since the blaze, people in Armadale and beyond have flocked to offer support and more than £2000
has been raised so far to help after a fundraising page was set up by students at Armadale Academy.
Chairman Ian Smith said: “We are overwhelmed by the support from local community members, councillors, schools and other sheds.
“Everything is gone. We’re still trying to come to terms with it and take it all in.
“Thankfully nobody was hurt and our evacuation process worked well.
“But we’ll need to replace everything.
“We had only just bought a new £1000 band saw last month.”
