Arizona Judge Allows Defendants To Attend Republican National Convention

Court Order.

An Arizona judge has granted permission for several individuals facing criminal charges related to the alleged conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results to travel to Milwaukee next week for the Republican National Convention. The Arizona delegation to the convention includes three fake electors who have been charged in the state for their purported involvement in the 2020 plot. These individuals are set to participate in officially nominating Donald Trump as the GOP's 2024 presidential nominee.

One of the defendants, Nancy Cottle, who has been charged with multiple felonies for her role as a pro-Trump fake elector from Arizona in the previous election, received approval from the judge overseeing the election subversion case to attend the RNC in Wisconsin. Additionally, Arizona state Sen. Jake Hoffman and state Sen. Anthony Kern, both of whom have pleaded not guilty, will also be allowed to travel to the convention.

These individuals were required to obtain the court's permission to travel as part of their pre-trial release conditions. In total, six other battleground states are sending fake electors and individuals involved in efforts to challenge the 2020 election results to represent their state parties at the RNC in Milwaukee. It remains unclear whether those facing election-related charges in other states have sought or been granted permission to attend the convention.
