Arizona Attorney Slams Trump Admin's 'True Recklessness' After Being Wrongly Ordered to Self-Deport

An immigration attorney in Arizona is calling out the federal government's "true recklessness" after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mistakenly ordered her — a U.S.-born citizen — to leave the country within seven days.

Pamela Rioles Saeed, a Boston-born American citizen and practicing immigration attorney in Tucson, Arizona, has worked closely with immigrant clients navigating complex DHS policies, ABC 15 reported. On April 8, she received a shock when an official-looking email from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) arrived in her inbox with a deportation order.

The email, bearing a CBP address, stated that Rioles Saeed's parole had been revoked and she must depart the U.S. within a week. Initially, she assumed the message was meant for a client — until she realized it was addressed solely to her.

Upon contacting fellow attorneys, she discovered she wasn't the only one. Other legal professionals had received similar notices, raising alarms about a possible systemic mishap.

The Department of Homeland Security later confirmed that certain notices may have been inadvertently sent to unintended recipients. According to DHS, the issue stemmed from automated emails being directed to contact addresses linked to non-citizens, which sometimes included attorneys' emails.

CBP has said it is monitoring the situation and addressing cases individually.
