Arijit Singh breaks his silence over the 'Gerua' controversy for the first time; here's what the singer had to say!

Arijit Singh recently opened up about the 'Gerua' controversy for the first time. The row happened at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) in 2022.

At a recently held concert in Kolkata, Arijit was asked about the same. He reportedly said "So much controversy over a colour, it is strange. If Swami ji wore white, would there be controversy over white too?"

Last year, Arjit was requested by CM Mamata Banerjee and the audience to sing a song. He obliged with the song 'Gerua'. The song was from Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Dilwale'. The event was attended by Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Prosenjit, Rani Mukerji, Shatabdi Roy, Arjit Singh, Babul Supriyo and other stars.

However, later, his concert which was scheduled for February 18 was cancelled. BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress engaged in mud-slinging. BJP was of the opinion that Mamata Banerjee was offended by Arijit’s choice of song. 'Gerua', as she has always expressed her anger about the ‘saffronisation’ of Indian politics. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh dismissed the accusations, saying that BJP was politicising the issue.

West Bengal minister Firhad Hakim had clarified that the permission for Arijit Singh’s concert was not granted as a G20 event was also scheduled in the same area.
