Ariana Grande is new Instagram queen! Superstar overtakes Selena Gomez as most followed woman

Ariana Grande has officially overtaken Selena Gomez to become the most followed woman on Instagram.

Grande – who was recently announced as the headline act for Manchester Pride – edged in front of her rival as she reached 146.3million followers, with Gomez languishing behind with 146.2million.

Grande, 25, is still some way behind the site’s most followed star, Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 155.9million.

Grande also has a mass Twitter following of 61.1million, which she often interacts with about new music or upcoming tours.

On Monday, the 7 Rings singer hinted to fans that she was working on a “special tour date” to return to Manchester, two years after her concert was the target of a terrorist attack.

Hours after she was announced to headline Pride, Grande replied to a fan wondering about a tour date in the city, explaining that they were “working” to make something happen.

“We are still working on something a little more special for you guys,” she wrote. “It takes a while to put these things together but hopefully I can tell you when I see you at pride. I love u. Hope that’s alright.”

The singer also tweeted that she was “thrilled” to be returning to the city and that she “couldn’t wait” to see everyone at the parade .

“Manchester babes, I’m so thrilled to be headlining Pride. My heart. I can’t wait to see u and I love u so so much,” she wrote before sharing a worker bee emoji in solidarity with the city.

Grande had just finished her Dangerous Woman set at Manchester Arena in May 2017 when a bomb was detonated in the foyer, killing 22 – including children – and injuring hundreds.

She returned to Manchester’s Old Trafford cricket ground just over a week later with the One Love Manchester concert, a benefit event organised by Grande and featuring many celebrity guests to raise money in the aftermath of the atrocity.
