Argos to stop home delivery service this month as they give update on Irish store closures

Argos has confirmed that it will stop its home delivery service from this month, with all stores in Ireland expected to close later this summer.

In January, the UK-based catalogue goods store reportedly informed staff of its decision to close all 34 stores across Ireland by June 24 of this year, although it said that Northern Irish operations would remain unchanged. At the time, Argos said that its decision came after a long period of careful consideration and a thorough review of its business and operations in the country and would gradually wind down its Irish business.

This also means that customers in Ireland won't be able to pay for orders via the Argos website or place orders via its home delivery service after March 22.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Argos said: "We have made the very difficult decision to close our Argos stores and online operations in the Republic of Ireland by 24 June 2023. You can still place orders for home delivery up until 22 March but after this date our home delivery service will no longer be available.

“This means that larger items which are currently only available through our home delivery service, such as sofas, beds and large kitchen appliances will no longer be sold by Argos in the Republic of Ireland.

"We will honour all home delivery orders placed before 22 March. After this date you can still order small items via our Click and Collect service until stores close on 24 June 2023," they added.

There are 34 Argos stores in Ireland with 580 employees. In January, Argos previously said that are working with their colleagues and the Mandate trade union to "propose an enhanced redundancy package".
