Argos shoppers swear by alternative to the air fryer - and it's much cheaper

Shoppers say they've discovered an "amazing" alternative to air fryers - and they cost just a fraction of the price.

They are raving about halogen ovens, which consume around 75% less electricity in comparison to conventional ovens.

Argos is currently selling the Cookworks Digital Halogen Oven for £56 - and it’s been a huge hit with shoppers, receiving hundreds of positive reviews.

One woman even said that her halogen oven is the "best buy ever".

With thousands of families already limiting their oven use in a bid to tackle rising bills, alternative and more affordable appliances have risen in popularity.

Air fryers - a small cooking appliance designed to simulate deep frying without the need for oil - has been the go-to option for many.

But with the demand having escalated as a result of rising energy bills, air fryers are often out of stock with huge waiting lists.

Argos is currently selling the Tower 9L Dual Basket Vortx Air Fryer for £150, as compared to the 15 litre halogen oven, going for £56.

A halogen uses beams of infrared radiation to heat food.

When switched on, these beams are released from the halogen bulbs and a fan circulates hot air over and around the food to cook.

The oven consists of a glass bowl with a lid that contains the fan and halogen bulbs.

One happy customer rushed to give her review of Argos’ product, saying: "Had a few halogen ovens in the past, this one beats them all.

“It’s digital, the lead can be removed from the lid, works brilliantly and saves lots of fuel as you are only heating up a small area instead of a large oven.

“You don’t need to spend hundreds on an air fryer, when you can buy this. Best buy ever."

Air fryers were found to run at £55.91 per year (Getty Images/iStockphoto)

Research by Utilita in August 2022 revealed that a saving of £279.66 can be made per year for those opting for an air fryer.

On average, air fryers were found to run at £55.91 per year.

This is compared to gas cookers at £121.06 per year, and electric cookers were more than double this amount at £335.57 per year.

Argos’ halogen oven is said to “deliver delicious and nutritious results”.

The retailer says it is perfect for baking, grilling or roasting - and different food types can be cooked at once with two separate racks.

The compartments mean no flavours will leak in into each other.

It also has a generous 15-litre capacity, and a timer to prevent food from being overcooked.
