Argos, Dunelm and B&Q stocking 8p-an-hour energy saving gadget as Aldi and Wilko sell out

Much like a decent air fryer, an affordable heated clothes airer is like gold dust in 2023. Aldi’s have sold out in minutes every time they’ve been online or in store, with retailers like Wilko and Home Bargains also seeing them fly off the shelves.

The reason they’re so popular is because they’re faster than a regular, non-heated clothes airer, but much cheaper to run than the energy-guzzling tumble drier, effectively offering the best of both worlds.

At the current rates, the average heated clothes airer costs less than 8p an hour to run compared to 30p+ for the tumble drier, making them a cost effective alternative. Additionally, they often tend to warm up the room you put them in, meaning you can knock the thermostat down a notch or two, as well.

Shoppers who are looking to cut back on their energy bills by using a heated airer may be hard pressed to find one online, with so many retailers out of stock. But we’ve managed to find a handful of money-saving heated airers from trusted brands like Argos and Dunelm, if you have been trying to find one of the coveted devices.

Here are some of the cheapest, top-rated heated airers currently in stock:

Argos

Argos is selling a £55 Minky Wing Heated Clothes Airer - which is said to cost less than 8p an hour to run. The energy-efficient item has already racked up hundreds of five-star reviews from customers who say it "makes a huge difference".

Some of its top features include foldable wings, which allow you to dry more clothes at one time, and a drying capacity of 16kg. There's 12m of drying space overall, and the Minky Wing Heated Clothes Airer can even be folded down flat for easy storage.

Argos claims that it costs less than 8p an hour to run, which is a lot less compared to the 34p it would cost for one tumble dryer cycle.

In a five-star review, one impressed shopper said: "With rising fuel bills I wanted to buy an airer to use instead of the tumble dryer. This one was a suitable style and the right size for me. The price was reasonable too. It folds up for storage and definitely saves money, it's brilliant."

You can purchase the Minky Wing Heated Clothes Airer for £55 at argos.co.uk.

Dunelm

Dunelm Heated Airer with Wings - £40 (Dunelm)

Cheaper still is the Heated Airer with Wings from Dunelm, coming in at £40 - only a penny more than Aldi’s.

Designed with fold out wings for extra drying space, this heated airer allows you to dry your clothes quickly and has low energy consumption, costing around 7p an hour to run.

It features an illuminated on and off switch and folds away neatly after use, perfect for saving space in your home. This design is suitable for holding up to 10kg of washing with a 12m drying space.

One shopper said it ‘kills two birds with one stone’, commenting: “I ordered the electric airer for my daughter who lives in a flat without a garden or a drying space. I managed to get one ordered and delivered within 24hrs. It’s brilliant, cost effective, does the job well and heats the apartment at the same time!”

Another added: “I’ve never wanted a tumble dryer, I don’t think they are environmentally friendly. This dryer is really handy, practical and cheaper to run.”

Robert Dyas

Portable Heated Clothes Airer with Wings (Robert Dyas)

The Haden Heated Winged Airer at Robert Dyas is currently on sale, slashed by £20 from £69.99 to £49.99.

This heated winged airer is ideal for easily drying your clothes, and can be used whatever the weather, with no need to rely on sunny days or garden space to be able to dry your washing.

It features 20 heated bars which is perfect for holding all of your washing and will get it dried in no time at all, thanks to its inbuilt heating which is ideal for quick drying.

You can shop the discounted airer here, however, the retailer is also stocking a Status heated airer for £69.99, and while it’s more expensive, it’s got some glowing reviews.

Made from aluminium, it is lightweight and easy to set up in your home, and folds down for easy storage to make it compact and keep it out of your way. It’s also the ideal solution for smaller homes or for students going off to university with no dryer available.

One shopper said: “I bought this item because our tumble dryer was broken and it did the job very well. Sheets are dry in no time if you keep turning them. We also do not put our more delicate clothes in the dryer so it is doing a great job for us.”

You can shop the £69.99 airer here.

B&Q

Finally, there’s the Heated Energy Efficient Winged Drying Clothes Airer from B&Q, which costs pennies to run. Priced at £49.99 it’s still affordable and one of the cheaper options on the market.

B&Q said the airer is ‘more efficient than radiators and kinder to your clothes than a tumble dryer’, and works well with a cover to make it more efficient.

Made from lightweight but sturdy aluminium, the airer folds away to just 5cm deep when not in use.

You can shop the £49.99 airer on B&Q’s website here.
