Area of Liverpool City Region sees rise in covid infections

An area of the Liverpool City Region has seen a rise in covid infections.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, St Helens logged 216 positive covid tests in the week ending May 7 - that's eight more cases than in the seven days beforehand.

It meant that the week-on-week percentage change figure in St Helens increased by 4%.

The other five areas of the city region recorded falls in positive covid tests. The falls were: 2% in Knowsley; 9% in Liverpool; 14% in Halton; 16% in Sefton; and, 11% in Wirral.

Cheshire West and Chester, West Lancs and Warrington logged falls in positive tests in the week ending May 7.

In England, there was a week-on-week percentage change figure fall of 14%.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 506 cases in the week ending May 7, which is 52 fewer cases than the previous week. This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure decreased by 9%. The latest infection rate was 101.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Wirral

Wirral's positive tests came to 376 cases in the week ending May 7, which is 45 fewer cases than in the previous seven days. This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure decreased by 11%. The latest infection rate was 115.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 144 positive tests over the last week - that's 23 fewer cases than in the previous week. This means the week-on-week percentage change figure decreased by 14% in Halton in the week ending May 7. The latest infection rate is 111.0 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 216 cases in the week ending May 7, which is eight more cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate in St Helens is 119.3 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 4%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 202 cases in the week ending May 7, which is three fewer cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 132.5 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure decreased by 2%.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 363 cases in the week ending May 7, which is a 67 fewer cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate is 131.6 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases decreased by 16% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 1,807 positive tests over in the week ending May 7, which is 182 fewer cases than in the previous week. This means the week-on-week percentage change decreased by 9%. The latest infection rate is 106.12 cases per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 256 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 7, which is 67 fewer cases than the previous week. The week-on-week percentage figure decreased by 21%. There was an infection rate of 122.26 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 475 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 7, which is 41 fewer cases than the previous week. The latest infection rate is 138.15 cases per 100,000 people, and the week-on-week percentage decreased by 8% in cases.

West Lancs

There were 108 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 7, which is 24 fewer cases than the previous week. The latest infection rate in West Lancs is 94.33 cases per 100,000 people, and the week-on-week percentage decreased by 18% in cases.

England

In the week ending May 7, England recorded 61,143 coronavirus cases, which is 9,358 fewer cases than in the previous seven days. The week-on-week percentage decreased by 13% in England. There was an infection rate of 108.12 per 100,000 people.
