AN area of the Highlands was named as the coldest in the UK on Sunday night as temperatures plunged.
In a post on Twitter/X, the Met Office pointed out that temperatures dropped as low as -7.8C at Tulloch Bridge on Sunday night.
It said: “Last night was the coldest of the season so far with the UK seeing its lowest temperature since last winter.
“However, south west England was much wilder.”
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across much of the Highlands, saying it could lead to “slippery surfaces and difficult travel conditions”.
It is in place until 11am on Monday morning before a second warning comes into place in the Borders.
The second warning has also been issued for snow and ice with the Met Office saying, “an area of snow may bring disruption to a central swathe of the UK during Monday night and Tuesday morning”.
It will be in place from 7pm on Monday night until 10am on Tuesday morning with the forecaster warning of a “small chance of power cuts” and the “slight chance that bus or train services may be delayed or cancelled”.
