Are train strikes going ahead during the Queen’s state funeral weekend?

Several events have been cancelled or postponed in respect of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away aged 96 last Thursday.

However, this doesn't mean the dispute between unions, train companies and the government has been resolved.

Here's what you need to know about the next train strike and whether it will affect the Queen's funeral on Monday?

There were three days of strike action planned for September. However, these have been cancelled after the death of the Queen.

The three cancelled train strikes were:

  • The RMT members also had another strike day planned for Saturday, September 17
  • The Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) union were scheduled to have a 24-hour strike starting midday on Monday, September 26

Brought on by the cost of living crisis and pay cuts, these September strikes were to follow months of disruption on the railways after several unions staged walkouts.

When is the next train strike?

After the cancellation of the three planned strike days, there are currently no train strikes planned for this month.

However, unions have made it clear that strikes will still go ahead at a later date, and this is merely a postponement or suspension of the planned action.

Train operations and Network Rail had already been working on plans which assumed that planned strikes will be going ahead, so there may still be some disruption on the planned strike days as schedules are redrawn.

Will tubes be affected by strikes?
