The magic of the FA Cup is in full swing this weekend.
Premier League giants, EFL stalwarts and non-league upstarts will all meet in third round of what many consider to be the greatest cup competition in the world. Many of the lower-ranked sides will be dreaming of pulling off a memorable upset, while some might well be dreaming of a trip down Wembley Way at the end of the season.
But what if teams can't be separated after 90 minutes?
Will there be replays for FA Cup third-round games?
For the last two seasons, replays were scrapped for the third and fourth rounds due to the disruption caused to the schedule by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, this season, FA Cup replays are returning for the third and fourth rounds. It means that if any matches end in draws this weekend, a replay will be scheduled.
Will there be extra-time and penalties for FA Cup third-round replays?
Replays for ties drawn will be scheduled to be played at the reverse ground at a later date. If a replay finishes level at the end of 90 minutes, the tie will go to extra-time. If two sides still cannot be separated after 120 minutes, there will eventually be a penalty shootout to decide who progresses to the next round.
