The Coronation of King Charles III will take place this weekend, marking one of the most historic royal events in many Brits’ lifetimes. The country has also been given an extra bank holiday so they can fully enjoy the celebrations.
Charles’ coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6, and will be held at Westminster Abbey in London. The ceremony is due to start at 11am and will see Charles crowned King alongside his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort.
Brits will be able to enjoy a three-day weekend thanks to the bank holiday on Monday, May 8. But while the country takes a day of rest and – hopefully – basks in the Spring sunshine, post will still need to be delivered.

So what does the coronation bank holiday weekend mean for Post Office opening times?
Are Post Offices open on King Charles’ Coronation bank holiday weekend?
Many Post Offices operate on weekends, often with reduced hours on Saturday and Sunday. As for bank holidays, most branches close their doors to give staff a well-earned day off.
Post Office advises customers to check up to date opening times for their local branch on the official website. It has also advised customers to check in-store or on their local branch’s social media pages for updates.
On Twitter, it said: “Branch opening times may differ this Coronation Bank Holiday. Please check with your local branch in store or on their social media pages for updated opening times.”

In regard to post being delivered and collected over the coronation weekend, the official website states that Royal Mail delivers and collects post on most days of the year, including Saturdays.
“However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on public or local holidays,” it says.
This means there will be no deliveries or collections on Monday, May 8. Services should still be available on Saturday, May 6, except for some areas in London that will be closed down for the coronation.
Royal Mail says that, for security reasons, access in the EC4V, SE1 7, SE1 8, SW1, W1J, W1K, WC2N and WC2R postcode areas is restricted on the following days:
- from 4 pm on Tuesday, 2 May until 9 am Wednesday, 3 May for Coronation preparations.
- from 7 pm on Friday, 5 May until after the clear up on Saturday, 6 May.
Up to date information can be found on Royal Mail’s ‘services near you’ page.
