In eclectic homes, you'll often find handcrafted designs that showcase the beauty of the bespoke. One such traditional style that's been part of the recent revival is mosaic. Known for its intricate opulence, mosaic tiles slowly seeped out of interiors for a while but have now made a much-welcomed comeback.
Achieved by arranging small pieces of stone, glass, or tile, mosaic is a lengthy process that almost always pays off. There are plenty of tile trends this year so we asked interior experts their thoughts on this long-established look and how to make it work in 2025 interiors.
Go down the classic route
Mosaic is no new design style. In fact, it's been around for thousands of years. The Ancient Greeks and Romans used tiny pebbles in various shades to create lavish floors in palaces and bathhouses.
It therefore makes sense that mosaics have been used in more traditional settings. It's a long-established method that's been utilized by designers all over the world. Sebastian Erras, creator of the iconic Instagram account Parisian Floors says his favorite mosaic styles are those found on the Art Deco floors all over Paris. 'I am a big fan of elaborate mosaic floors that show lots of details and are not afraid of colors.'
Mosaics can bring a classic elegance that can enhance any style of interior. Grazzie Wilson, Head of Creative at Ca’ Pietra says, 'I adore marble mosaics for their timeless elegance and versatility. From intricate hexagons to scalloped fan designs, they bring an artisanal touch to any setting.'
Sebastian says 'I think there are really only two ways of bringing mosaics into your home, the classic way: where you use tiles in the bathroom, hallway, or as a backdrop in the kitchen. Or if you feel a bit more creative I have seen them being used as wall tiles in bedrooms or smaller areas to bring in a bit of color and design into the more boring areas of your home.'
Create a personal design
The beauty of the mosaic is its ability to take shape in different forms. Little tiles can be arranged into a one-of-a-kind design inspired by an illustration or image that holds personal meaning.

Turn a surface into a statement
Mosaics can often bring a sense of luxury through their intricacy. Despite their history, mosaics are very versatile meaning they look great in practically any style of home. Once arranged and laid, the tiles can elevate a plain surface or corner creating an impressive statement.
Mosaics can lift an otherwise one-dimensional space. Instantly catching your eye, the hallway (pictured above) has been covered in unexpected colorful tiles that contrast against the subdued wall. Tying the room together, the tiles bring a much-needed dose of color and texture, all achieved through their intricate craftsmanship.

'We also love using mosaics to define spaces', says Grazzie, 'think a stunning border around a bath or a beautifully tiled floor that draws the eye. It’s all about layering materials and patterns to create something truly special.'

Mosaic designs are undeniably beautiful, making them the perfect way to elevate an otherwise plain space. In our opinion, no other tile quite beats the unique, artisanal quality of the mosaic.
