This article contains FBoy Island spoilers!!!!!!
In my opinion, there is one obvious breakout star from season two of FBoy Island and that’s Krystal Thomas. The former The Bachelors contestant rolled into the competition determined to not only find her own Nice Guy, but help the other gals Nicole Mitrov and Ally Woodfall see through the Fuck Boys’ bullshit to find theirs too.
With her wits, humour and little black book of notes, Krystal was upfront and honest throughout the entire show, demanding the boys show her and the other gals the respect they deserve throughout the process.
Heading into the finale, Krystal had two suitors: fellow Bachelor franchise star Paddy Colliar and high-voltage electrician Doug Roocke. They were pretty good contenders. Doug seemed to be head over heels for Krystal (he even made her a bracelet that said “Doug <3 Krystal”) whereas Paddy had been upfront about his fuck boy past in the Bachelorette era and promised he’d changed his ways.
With two A+ nice blokes in her final two, Krystal says she was still deciding who to pick right up to the last second.
“It was a genuine toss-up,” Krystal tells PEDESTRIAN.TV.
“I was still flipping coins in the taxi before with the girls. I was just still so torn because I felt so strongly about both of them but I think what it came down to was just seeing a potential relationship and future with one of them.”
Despite her deep connection with Doug, Krystal felt like she could see a clearer future with Paddy. But that didn’t mean breaking the news was easy — especially after he admitted he’d fallen in love with her.
“Oh my god, I still can’t believe that. My jaw was on the floor. I was like, ‘In love with me?'” she admits.
“I think I was trying to not self-sabotage and absolutely believe someone. It was just really hard to believe. And also, in my head, I was like ‘How can you love me so hard after two weeks? How is this possible?’
“He was genuine in saying that, but I think maybe I’m just a bit too much of a realist, so I found it really hard to believe. But again, how beautiful? I do feel so strongly about him and have so much love for him still. I think he’s a great person and whoever he ends up with is very lucky.”
Sadly, Krystal and Paddy are no longer together, having gone their separate ways in the six months between FBoy Island filming and the season airing.
According to Krystal, the distance between them was the biggest factor in their relationship’s demise.
“Oh no, sorry to burst your bubble but unfortunately Paddy and I are not together,” she revealed.
“We did give it a go post-show. Obviously I’m in the Gold Coast and he was in Adelaide at the time so long distance made things slightly difficult. Logistics-wise, it just couldn’t work.
“I think if both parties don’t put in 100 per cent effort, then it’s never going to work. But look, there’s no bad blood there. I wish him all the best. And who knows, you might even see him on MAFS or more reality shows.”
Despite the outcome of their relationship, Krystal doesn’t regret any of her choices on the show.
“It was always going to be a risk. Like it’s either going to work out or not going to work out and I’m not ashamed in saying it didn’t work,” she explains.
“I’m still happy with the experience we shared together and the feelings I had for him were very real. So I stand in that, it’s just part of life and part of dating.”
Although she didn’t find her perfect match, what Krystal did gain is a pretty solid friendship with the other two gals on the show, Nicole and Ally.
“We were with each other from day one and no one will ever understand what it’s like going through it,” she shares.
“From the early mornings, long days, hair and makeup and just the chaos of everything, you’re running through emotions. Having the sisterhood was definitely necessary and I’m glad I had that experience with both girls.”
As their friendship got stronger, Krystal felt compelled to do what she could to help the other gals find their Nice Guys too. And, whenever one of the fellas did something she didn’t like, or showed a red flag, she was the first to speak up. Most notably, she spoke up when it was revealed that Ally’s frontrunner Joe Blanch was a fan of self-proclaimed misogynist (to say the least) Andrew Tate.
However, the biggest twist in the finale was when Joe was revealed as a Nice Guy, after all. And, as confirmed by both Krystal and Nicole, Ally and Joe are still happily together today.
“That came as a surprise to quite a few of us,” Krystal admitted.
“I think it was good that he came out as a Nice Guy, because it’s kind of like a redeeming quality. Because he did say some questionable things, which I will always call out. I always call out anyone who says half the shit that that man said. But in saying that, I think in the real world, Joe would have some qualities that obviously Ali would see as a green flag.
“But, yeah, I don’t know. I’m glad as long as she’s happy. If they’re making it work, that’s great for them. If he does fuck up, she can just give me a call and I’ll be on the plane ASAP.”
Now that the fling with Paddy has fizzled out, Krystal has moved on. And although she’d still classify herself as technically single, she says she’s currently talking to someone very promising.
“It is early days but I’m really excited,” she says.
“We’ll see how it goes but who knows, there might be a hard launch coming soon.”
I love that for her!!! And if it doesn’t work out, I’m sure there are now thousands of men who will happily vie for her attention.
