Ardoyne community prepare for week-long fun as annual festival kicks off

A tight-knit community in North Belfast has announced a fun-filled programme for this year's summer festival.

Organised by the Ardoyne and Marrowbone Community Festival Committee, the annual Ardbone Fest will kick start on Sunday, August 21. It will run for one week, with activities for young and old planned.

Despite difficulties in getting funding for the festival, organisers say they have worked hard to make sure most events are free to attend. Events include street parties, a comedy night and a dance night.

A spokesperson for the committee told Belfast Live that a key focus when planning the events has been the necessity to provide opportunities for the entire family to spend time together.

They added: "Following the huge success of last year and previous years we're excited to present another programme packed with a broad range of events and activities that we are sure will cater for everyone.

"This year we've based the festival around several key themes, some of which include sport, drama, older people, health and wellbeing and improved relations within our community. We've worked very hard to ensure our most of our events remain free-of-charge for everyone.

"It has been another tough year to secure money to run the festival and that shouldn’t be the case as we feel we should be entitled to a share of funding that is given out to other communities around Belfast. We would like to welcome everyone to get heavily involved in each of the events featured in this year's festival, and we look forward to hopefully seeing families at some of our events."
