Arctic Monkeys have announced the title and tracklisting of their upcoming seventh album, titled 'The Car'.
The Sheffield band – who skyrocketed to fame in 2006 with their hit I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor – premiered their first new music in four years during their set at Zurich Openair festival on Tuesday with the song ‘I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am’. The track suggests their new album will have a similar retro style to their 2018 LP ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’, an album poles apart from their previous riff-heavy offerings.
Footage of track two from 'The Car' was posted to social media following the show and was met with mixed reactions from fans. One Twitter user wrote: “It’s awful you’re kidding yourself if you say it’s good.”

Another said: “very TBHC vibes, not sure we need another album fully like it?”
“I was there - liked the new song and they were epic tonight. Watch out Reading and Leeds!!” a third said.

However, as some pointed out, it would be unfair to completely pass judgement on the new track based solely on the fan-filmed footage. The four-piece – frontman Alex Turner, guitarist Jamie Cook, bassist Nick O’Malley, and drummer Matt Helders – are getting ready to embark on a tour later this month to promote the new 10-track album, the tracklist for which has just been revealed:
- There’d Better Be A Mirrorball
- I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am
- Sculptures Of Anything Goes
- Jet Skis On The Moat
- Body Paint
- The Car
- Big Ideas
- Hello You
- Mr Schwartz
- Perfect Sense
Speaking at DrumathonLIVE 2022 in May this year, drummer Matt told interviewers the new album will pick up musically where Tranquility Base left off. He said: “I mean, it’s never gonna be like ‘R U Mine?’ and all that stuff again, you know, the heavy riffs and stuff.
"But there are riffs in there and [it is] a bit more up-tempo, even though it’s not loud."
Arctic Monkeys are set to headline Reading and Leeds Festival on 27 and 28 August.
'The Car' is due for release on 21 October.
